The Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch has arrested eight individuals, including one woman, for their involvement in cyberstalking, online harassment, and identity theft targeting women. The crackdown was executed under the recently launched "Mission Cyber Rakshika" initiative (#SecureHerSpace), designed to make digital platforms safer for female users. Police teams tracked and apprehended the suspects through coordinated raids across several districts in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
The operation was initiated after several women approached the Cyber Crime unit reporting explicit messages, harassment through fake social media handles, cyberbullying, and identity theft. Following confidential counseling sessions conducted by female officers, police registered 11 separate First Information Reports (FIRs) while keeping the victims' identities strictly protected. Technical investigations revealed that the perpetrators primarily targeted women maintaining public profiles on social media platforms. Detailed investigations highlighted severe cyberstalking practices, including the misuse of artificial intelligence. One suspect, Suresh Puri, reportedly created 10 fake accounts over six months to harass approximately 300 women with explicit messages and objectionable media. Another suspect, Keyur Lakkar, used fake female profiles to approach friends of public profile holders. Earlier phases of Mission Cyber Rakshika had led to arrests in Rajasthan and Delhi, where suspects used AI deepfakes to generate explicit images for extortion.
