Bengaluru: Student Accuses Landlord of S*xual Harassment During Flat Inspection in Karnataka

A 60-year-old landlord in Bengaluru has been booked by local authorities after a 20-year-old university student accused him of s*xual harassment during a visit to her apartment. The incident allegedly occurred on August 15 at her residence in Longford Town.

A 20-year-old college student in Bengaluru has accused her landlord of s*xual harassment during a visit to her rented apartment, alleging that he forcibly hugged and kissed her and touched her inappropriately despite her resistance. The incident reportedly occurred during a flat inspection in the Longford Town area, and police have taken up the case for investigation. According to the complaint, the student was alone at her apartment when the landlord arrived to inspect pending repair work. During the interaction, the landlord allegedly held her hand and pulled her towards him.

The student alleged that he then hugged her and kissed her on the cheeks despite her attempts to move away. She also accused him of making unwanted physical contact. Police Register Case

Following the complaint, Ashok Nagar police registered a case against the landlord under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to assault or criminal force against a woman and s*xual harassment. The accused has been arrested, according to reports.

Incident During Property Inspection

The student had been living in the apartment for around two-and-a-half months, according to the complaint. The landlord's visit was reportedly linked to unfinished repair work at the property. The alleged incident took place after the repair work was inspected and the two spoke about the student's college. The student subsequently approached police and reported the alleged conduct.

Investigation Underway

The case comes as police continue to investigate allegations of s*xual harassment in residential and other settings in Bengaluru. In this case, the allegations remain subject to investigation and the accused is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Police are expected to establish the sequence of events and examine available evidence as part of the investigation.
