Ahmedabad, October 21: In a shocking incident in Gujarat, a 28-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after her husband and mother-in-law allegedly harassed her in Ahmedabad. Police officials said that the incident occurred on October 13, when the woman ended her life. The incident came to light after the woman's father lodged a police complaint on Saturday, October 19.

In his complaint, the victim's father said that his daughter had married a man from Ghuma in 2019. He also alleged that his daughter revealed that her husband started drinking and even forced her to cook non-vegetarian food nearly six months after the wedding, reports TOI. Cops said the suicide took place on October 13 after the woman informed her mother about her husband beating her. Case of Dowry Death Registered Against the Husband and His Mother
However, when the woman's mother called her again, the calls went unanswered. Later in the night, the woman's family learned that their daughter had ended her life by hanging herself. Following this, the woman's father approached the Bopal police and lodged a complaint against his daughter's husband and mother-in-law. Acting on the complaint, a case of dowry death and subjecting a woman to cruelty was registered.
During the preliminary investigation, cops found that the husband used to beat his wife after she objected to his alleged harassment. The complainant also claimed that his son-in-law used to demand money for his spending. The deceased woman's father further said that he fulfilled his son-in-law's demand for the sake of his daughter. However, the man continued to assault the woman over petty issues. Deceased Woman Reconciled After Divorcing Husband
The FIR also stated that the man's mother also subjected the deceased woman to violence. It was also found that the man used to give in writing that he would not assault his wife every time she returned to her maternal home in Surat due to marital issues. Cops also discovered that the woman had sought divorce from her husband in November 2024, but the elders of the community made the couple reconcile.
Following this, the husband and wife began living together a few months after their divorce. Post their reconciliation, the man started harassing his wife again after she started working as a sales manager.
