Man Accused of Damaging Neighbour’s Vehicle
According to an ANI report published on October 16, the deceased was identified as Veeresh. Police had registered a case against him for allegedly damaging his neighbour’s vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. In a video recorded before his death, Veeresh alleged that a sub-inspector and a constable beat him while he was at the police station. He claimed that he apologised and offered to pay for the vehicle’s repairs, but the police continued to assault him. Veeresh also alleged that he was kept at the police station for a day and that his mother had offered to pay for the damage.
Police Deny Assault Allegations
Police have denied beating or torturing Veeresh. According to their statement, he had been called for an inquiry in connection with the complaint about the alleged vehicle damage. Police also said CCTV footage was available at the police station and claimed that Veeresh had asked them to cancel the case registered against him. Family Complaint to Be Investigated
Police said Veeresh consumed poison on October 10 and died while undergoing treatment. They added that they had received a complaint from his family members and would investigate the allegations. The circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and Veeresh’s death remain under investigation. The allegations against the police have not yet been independently established.
