New Delhi, October 3: The Indian Air Force is set to celebrate its 86th anniversary or rising day. Every year, 8th October is celebrated as Indian Air Force Day to commemorate the foundation of Indian Air force in 1932. A twinkling air display by 28 aircraft will hallmark the Air Force Day 2018. Fighter aircraft including Sukhoi, Jaguar, Mirage and MiG 21s will be participating in the air show on IAF Day 2018. Dakota aircraft will also be participating in the event for the first time. According to the government press release, the air display will begin with famous skydiving team Akash Ganga dropping out of AN-32 aircraft at 8:00 hours and will conclude at 10: 52 hours with the scintillating aerobatic display.

Why IAF is Celebrated on 8th October?

It was on this day that the Indian Air Force was officially established in the year 1932 as an auxiliary air force of Royal Air Force under the British rule. After India gained Independence in 1947, the name Royal India Air Force was kept and served in the name of Dominion of India. After India became a Republic nation in 1950, the prefix Royal was removed from the name.

During the celebrations of IAF day,  parade marches, Rifle drills, Skydiving, and many stunts are performed to accolade IAF's contribution towards the nation.
