Following the raids at his Nadava residence, Anant Singh said that he is being harassed as he contested elections against Lalan Singh. "My home is not being raided. It is being demolished by 100 policemen," he said. Police, however, denied his allegations.

Nicknamed as "Chhote Sarkar", Singh has a long criminal record. He was recently summoned to Patna Police headquarters for giving his voice sample in connection with a case of an alleged conspiracy to kill Mokama-based contractor.

Singh was earlier known to be close to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar but their relations were damaged ahead of 2015 assembly elections following which he left Janata Dal (Secular) and retained his seat as an Independent.
