The attack took place around 12:30 PM at the busy Lal Chowk area in Anantnag town. Unidentified terrorists fired upon a police deployment stationed in the market area, critically injuring Head Constable Aashiq Hussain.
The injured personnel, posted on Amarnath Yatra security duty and belonging to Budgam district, was immediately evacuated to the Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag, where doctors later declared him dead. Following the firing, joint teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Indian Army cordoned off the entire locality. Security personnel have established check posts along key transit routes, with intense search operations underway to track down the assailants.
