The case was initially registered as an investigation into property damage after Muniraju approached the police. Investigators also examined whether the incident was connected to a local political dispute, including a controversy involving Vinayaka Chavithi flexies. However, police reportedly found no immediate evidence linking the motorcycle fire to the dispute.
The investigation later focused on CCTV footage and technical evidence collected from the area. Police identified five men, namely Sai, Uday Kiran, Leela Krishna, Prithviraj and Harish, allegedly in connection with the burning of Muniraju's motorcycle. According to police, the five suspects were taken into custody and admitted to their alleged involvement in setting the vehicle on fire. During the probe, investigators reportedly uncovered a wider alleged conspiracy involving Muniraju's wife, Prashanthi.
Police said Prashanthi had been in close contact with one of the accused, Sai. Investigators reportedly examined her social media activity and alleged that she had shared details and moments involving her husband with Sai.
According to the police investigation, Prashanthi and the other accused had allegedly discussed plans to attack Muniraju on multiple occasions. Police said the alleged plans to kill the BJP leader were not carried out.
Investigators are now examining whether the motorcycle-burning incident was part of the alleged wider conspiracy against Muniraju.
Prashanthi, Sai, Uday Kiran, Leela Krishna, Prithviraj and Harish were subsequently arrested and produced before a court. All six were sent to judicial remand.
The investigation into the alleged conspiracy is ongoing. The police allegations are subject to further investigation and judicial proceedings.
