Lucknow Double Murder: UP Home Guard Kills Wife and Daughter; Arrested
A 56-year-old home guard has been remanded in judicial custody following his arrest for the suspected murder of his wife and 32-year-old daughter at their residence in Lucknow’s Krishna Nagar area.
A 56-year-old Uttar Pradesh home guard, Ravindra Shankar Sahu, was sent to jail on Saturday after being arrested for allegedly strangling his wife and 32-year-old daughter at their home in Lucknow’s Krishna Nagar area. According to police, the accused claimed that prolonged domestic disputes and mental stress had led him to plan the killings of his entire family. The incident came to light after Sahu allegedly informed police about the murders, TOI reported.
Accused Allegedly Mixed Sleeping Pills in Tea
According to the police investigation, Sahu allegedly mixed sleeping pills into tea on Friday night and served it to his wife, Shyam Dulari, and daughter, Pooja Sahu. After they fell asleep, he allegedly strangled them using a mobile phone charging cable. Lucknow: 70-Year-Old Woman Allegedly Gang-Raped, Killed After Objecting to Men Drinking Near Her House.
Police said the accused subsequently approached the police station and informed officials about the killings. A police team reached the residence, recovered the bodies and collected evidence from the scene.
Family Disputes Allegedly Behind the Crime
During questioning, Sahu reportedly told police that frequent arguments at home had left him frustrated. The disputes allegedly involved his daughter’s personal life and accusations exchanged between family members.
Police said Pooja had been married twice, but both marriages had ended amid marital disputes. Allegations concerning her relationship with another man had reportedly become a recurring source of conflict within the family. Lucknow Shocker: MNC Employee Killed by Former Lover Days After Engagement, UP Police Arrest Accused.
Sahu allegedly resented his wife’s support for their daughter. Investigators also said the accused expressed regret over his actions and sought forgiveness during questioning.
Younger Daughter and Granddaughter Survive
Police said Sahu had five children. Pooja, his eldest daughter, had returned to her parents’ home after the breakdown of her marriages and was living there with her daughter from her first marriage.
The accused’s younger daughter and granddaughter survived the incident because the door of their room was locked from the inside, according to police.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rallapalli Vasanth Kumar said neighbours had also reported frequent quarrels between the couple.
Police Recall Earlier Family Dispute
Investigators also referred to an incident in August 2025, when Shyam Dulari reportedly left the house with jewellery. Sahu subsequently filed a missing-person complaint at Krishna Nagar police station. She returned after approximately 10 to 12 days, police said.
The investigation into the double murder is continuing. Sahu was arrested on Friday and sent to jail on Saturday, according to the Times of India report published on October 11, 2026.
