New Delhi, December 19: With massive protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act in the national capital, reports are arriving that IndiGo has cancelled 19 flights after its crew members got stuck in traffic jam in New Delhi on Thursday. Apart from this, 16 flights have been delayed due to traffic jam at NH-8. Also, Air India had issued a similar notice and stated that reissue or no-show or cancellation and refund charges for all domestic and international tickets for travel from Delhi on December 19, 2019 shall be waived.

Air India said, as quoted by news agency ANI, "In view of the current heavy traffic congestion along the Gurugram-Delhi highway, resulting in inconvenience to passengers, reissue/no-show/cancellation and refund charges for all domestic & international tickets for travel from Delhi on 19th Dec 2019 shall be waived." Earlier, Indigo had to cancel its 19 flight flying from the Indira Gandhi International Airport, as its staff got stuck in the massive traffic jam. The huge traffic snarls took place due to the ongoing massive protests against the recently amemded Citizenship Act.

Informing more about the latest development, Indigo took to Twitter and appealed to the passengers to keep a tab on the live traffic and enough travel time in hand while travelling to the airport. It said, "There have been flight delays/cancellations across the network on account of poor visibility followed by Air traffic congestion in Delhi."

The domestic flying leader even mentioned that they are offering 'free move for passengers travelling to and from Delhi today basis seat availability' and 'cancellations can be done at no extra charge'. Similar messages were tweeted by SpiceJet through its social media handle.

Huge traffic snarls can be witnessed at the Delhi-Gurgaon route with vehicles lined up till 10-15 kms on the expressway. Meanwhile, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation had closed the entry and exit of 17 stations.
