New Delhi, August 26: The ashes of former Finance Minister and senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley were immersed in River Ganga in Haridwar by his son Rohan on Monday. According to a tweet by ANI, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and Union HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal were also present. Jaitley's last rites were performed on Sunday with full state honours at the Nigambodh Ghat in the national capital, a day after his demise.

Jaitley breathed his last on August 24 at 12.07 pm at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. Jaitley began his political career at a young age and was imprisoned during the Emergency period of 1975-77. He enjoyed personal rapport with leaders of various political parties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on his foreign tour, expressed grief over the demise.

Several leaders cutting across the party lines reached the crematorium on Sunday to pay their tributes to the BJP leader. The leaders included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP Working President JP Nadda and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Several other leaders like Nitish Kumar of Bihar, BS Yediyurappa, Arvind Kejriwal, Union Minister Smriti Irani and yoga guru Baba Ramdev were also present.
