Guwahati, May 16: Five students committed suicide in Assam for not performing up to their expectations in the state’s high school leaving certificate (HSLC) exam. All these five students committed suicide by hanging. Out of the five students, four were girls. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, four girl students committed suicide for failing the exams while a boy in Bongaigaon killed himself after failing to secure 60% marks. Debadanda Das, in-charge of Barpeta Road police station told the media house, “A girl student from Baksa district committed suicide yesterday. Preliminary investigation suggests the cause was due to failure in the HSLC exam. The victim was brought to a hospital in Barpeta Road where she was declared brought dead on arrival.”

The Assam Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) on Wednesday declared the class 10 board exam result 2019. A total of 60.23 percent of the 3.36 lakh students cleared the examination successfully. Assam board this year, conducted the class 10 examinations from February 14 to March 2 at many centres across the state. Besides, SEBA took stringent measures across all centres to prevent cheating and other malpractices during the examination hours.
