New Delhi, September 14: The auction of over 2,700 gifts Prime Minister Narendra Modi received from across the country has begun on Saturday and will continue till October 3. The gifts including headgears, shawls, portraits, swords gifted by different organisations and chief ministers to the PM are currently on display at the National Gallery of Modern Arts in New Delhi. There are a total of 2,772 articles, of which the most expensive painting of PM Modi done on silk and gifted by couturier and the owner of Seematti textiles Beena Kannan is priced at Rs 2.5 lakhs. Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Prahlad Patel said, “Union Minister Prahlad Patel: Auction of mementoes gifted to PM Modi in last six months began today and will continue till 3rd Oct. The mementoes include 576 shawls, 964 angavastram (clothes), 88 pagris (head-dress) and various jackets portraying the diversity of India. In the January auction, over 1,800 gifts received by the prime minister were sold in a fortnight-long exercise, and around 4,000 bidders participated. The funds received were donated to the Namami Gange project.
