Bhubaneswar, May 3: Amid the devastating cyclone which struck Odisha earlier today, a pregnant woman gave birth to a baby at the Bhubaneswar Railway station. The newborn, a girl, has been named by her parents as "Fani" -- the cyclone which struck at least 8 districts of the state on Friday.

Railway Hospital officials, while speaking to reporters, confirmed that the baby was born at 11:0am. The girl's mother, 32-year-old, was rushed to the hospital at a time when the highest level of alert was issued across Odisha in view of the storm. The woman has been identified as a helper Coach Repair Workshop in Mancheswar. Her condition, along with the toddler's, is reported to safe.

The cyclone, which was categorised as "extremely severe", has been downgraded as "severe" by the West Bengal IMD. Coastal areas have been put on alert for the next two days, whereas, heavy to moderate rains will be witnessed in state capital Kolkata.
