Badlapur: Woman Arrested for Beating Husband With Pressure Cooker Lid, Strangling Him for Not Buying Her Sarees in Thane
A 30-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband in Maharashtra's Badlapur following a domestic dispute over sarees, police said. Investigators alleged she assaulted him with a pressure cooker lid before strangling him. The case came to light after a post-mortem report contradicted her claim of an accidental death, prompting a murder investigation.
A 30-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly beating her husband with a pressure cooker lid and strangling him to death following a domestic dispute over not bringing her sarees, police said. The accused, identified as Sunitadevi Hareram Singh, was arrested on Tuesday, July 21, after investigators concluded that the death was not accidental. A local court has remanded her to police custody till July 29.
The accused is originally from Rohtas district in Bihar. Police said she had initially attempted to mislead investigators by reporting her husband's death as accidental. However, a post-mortem examination and subsequent investigation led to her arrest.
Woman Arrested For Killing Husband After He Failed To Buy Her Sarees
According to police, the incident took place on July 19 at the couple's residence in Badlapur East, where Hareram Kishunji Singh (35) was at home when an argument allegedly broke out over his failure to bring sarees.
"Victim Hareram Kishunji Singh (35) was at his home in Badlapur East on July 19 when a heated argument broke out between the couple after he failed to bring sarees. In a fit of anger, she assaulted him with a pressure cooker lid and strangled him," an official said.
Medical Report Triggered Murder Investigation
Based on the wife's statement, police initially registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR). However, the findings of a medical examination conducted at a government hospital prompted investigators to pursue the case further.
"The report confirmed that the death was unnatural and caused by violent asphyxia as a result of strangulation. Subsequent inquiries conducted with the deceased's family members and the landlord raised strong suspicion against the wife," said senior inspector Nitin Patil from the Badlapur East police station. Police subsequently arrested Sunitadevi on Tuesday.
Following her arrest, the accused was produced before a local court, which remanded her to police custody till July 29. Police said the investigation into the case is continuing.
