New Delhi, October 28: Activist Saket Gokhale on Monday filed a cybercrime complaint against disqualified Aam Aaadmi Party MLA Kapil Mishra, who recently joined the BJP, for spreading communal hatred. In a tweet, Gokhale said, "I've filed an FIR against Kapil Mishra for this tweet containing communal hate-speech inciting violence against minorities. Let's see to what extent Modi govt. goes in protecting a BJP leader. Failure of the police to prosecute him will force me to seek judicial recourse."

Gokhale's response was to Kapil Mishra's tweet in which the former MLA targeted the minority community. "If you want to reduce pollution ... reduce these crackers, not the crackers of Diwali," he said while tweeting a picture of a Muslim family.

The cyber crime complaint was registered on Monday. The activist, in an FIR (First Information Report), claimed that "this is a clear case of hate-speech abetting to violence against minorities and punishable under sec 154A of the IPC".

Reacting to the development, Kapil Mishra tweeted: "The fake attack of fake seculars and fake liberals just because I openly supported the right to firecrackers on Diwali and talked about population control. FIR is being lodged, threats on phone and complaints are being made for twitter account suspension."

"No coward. It’s nothing to do with fireworks. It’s because of your hate speech against minorities. You pretend to be pretty brave when you’re peddling hate speech. Why get so terrified and play the victim card in 15 mins when shown the legal consequences of your hate?" Saket said in a reply.
