Mumbai, August 20: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has recently issued a directive that imposes Rs 10,000 fine on private busses parked illegally on the roads, starting September 1. According to a Times of India report, this comes after BEST opened its bus depots for parking of 3,500 vehicles. However, only 20 vehicles use the facility on a daily basis. The BMC has further stated that buses if found lying on the roads for the second time, will be seized. BMC has decided to take this stern step to bring discipline and ease traffic on the roads.

According to BMC’s press release, there is space for around 3,495 buses at 24 bus depots and 37 BEST terminals, available at reasonable rates. “However, it has been noted that since July 7, the parking spaces have been used only 421 times. This is an average of 20 buses daily. Only 371 buses have a monthly pass,” the press release reads. The bus associations have claimed that this move will not help.
