Hyderabad, November 16: The Andhra Pradesh government has withdrawn the ‘General Consent’ given to the members of Delhi Special Police Establishment to exercise powers and jurisdiction in the state. In the absence of this permission, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) cannot interfere with any case that takes place within the limits of Andhra Pradesh. Going forward, the state's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) will carry out all the duties of the CBI. TDP Compares PM Modi to ‘Anaconda’ Who Is Swallowing National Institutions; BJP Calls Chandrababu Naidu ‘King of Corruption’

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, Lanka Dinakar accused the Narendra Modi government of curbing the freedom of the central agency. Speaking to news agency ANI over the decision Dinakar said, “This decision has been taken in wake of incidents happening in CBI since last 6 months. It lost its independence due to the involvement of Modi-led Union government which is using CBI as tools against political opponents by means of preparing fabricated statements.”

The Andhra government’s decision has come amid the ongoing chaos in the investigative agency. In March, the TDP quit the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government over the failure of the central government to give ‘special category status’ to Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today has postponed the hearing in the CBI case to November 20.

The apex court has asked the exiled CBI director Alok Verma to file a response to the Central Vigilance Commission’s  (CVC) report. The CVC report, however, would not be shared with CBI special director and Verma's deputy Rakesh Asthana. The CVC inquiry against Verma was constituted on October 31, after he was sent on forced leave in wake of the serious charges levelled against him.
