The Chandigarh District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission ordered the company to issue the refund alongside a 9 per cent annual interest rate calculated from the date the complaint was filed, reports Livemint. The customer had purchased a five-year holiday membership from Park Club International - formerly known as Grand Royaltaj Club International - for INR 1,10,000 on February 6, 2024. The package entitled the buyer to 36 nights across four-to-five-star properties in India for four adults, inclusive of breakfast and dinner.
Allegations of Substandard Services
According to the complaint, the consumer sought rooms at a five-star property in Manali, but the company declined the request and urged him to upgrade his membership before eventually arranging a three-star alternative. Subsequent booking attempts for Kasauli resulted in offers for lower-tier properties, contrary to the terms of the agreement. The customer also reported facing extra non-member charges and out-of-pocket meal expenses because the promised food plans were omitted during stays. Park Club International failed to appear before the commission during proceedings and was proceeded against ex parte.
Compliance and Penalties
Because the company did not contest the allegations, the submitted records - including payment proofs, correspondence, and bills - remained unrebutted. The commission granted the firm 45 days to comply with the directives, noting that failure to do so will push the interest rate on the principal amount to 12 per cent per annum until full realisation.
