A retired Indian Army officer died on Sunday night after his throat was slit by banned synthetic kite string, commonly known as "Chinese manjha," while riding his two-wheeler along the Ring Road in Jammu's Bishnah area, local officials confirmed on Monday.

The victim, identified as Naib Subedar (Retd.) Lakhvinder Singh, a resident of Dewangarh in R.S. Pura, was returning home after completing his shift as a private security guard at an industrial unit in Bari Brahmana. While several shopkeepers have been arrested in recent months during enforcement drives, the fatal incident has triggered public outrage, with residents demanding stringent action against illegal distributors and stricter surveillance on high-traffic roads.
