New Delhi, April 20: The Supreme Court on Saturday constituted a special bench comprising of Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Arun Mishra has met for a special sitting to discuss the matter of "great public importance." The bench is discussing the issue related to the "independence of the judiciary." The Additional Registrar of the court put out a notice saying that the special sitting started at 10:30 am.

According to the notice, the order came up after the matter was mentioned by Tushar Mehta, Solicitor General. Till now, there is no clarity on what the issue is. "The chief justice's court to deal with a matter of great public importance touching upon the independence of the judiciary, on a mention being made by Tushar Mehta," the top court notice said.
