CNG Cylinder Blast in Gujarat Video: Car’s Cylinder Explodes During Refuelling at Fuel Station, Nearby Vehicles Damaged
A CNG cylinder ruptured inside a car during refuelling at a fuel station on NH-48 near Karjan in Vadodara, Gujarat. The occupants had stepped out before filling began, and no major casualties were reported.
A compressed natural gas (CNG) cylinder fitted in a passenger car ruptured and exploded while it was being refuelled at a fuel station on National Highway 48 near Karjan in Gujarat's Vadodara district, damaging the car's rear and two other vehicles parked nearby. A major tragedy was avoided because the driver and passengers had already got out of the car and were standing outside the refuelling zone while gas was being dispensed. The fuel station is located close to the Jindal and Timba industrial facilities along the highway corridor, and the sudden blast caused brief panic among staff and motorists on the forecretourt.
Authorities said the cylinder failed structurally under pressure while the attendants were filling it. The force of the explosion split the cylinder and tore through the boot of the car, while the windows and body panels of two other vehicles waiting in the queue were shattered. Hydro-Testing Rules For CNG Cylinders
In India, CNG-fitted vehicles are required to undergo periodic safety inspections. Cylinders must go through hydro-testing, typically every three years, to certify that the casing can handle operational pressure without metal fatigue or seam failure.
Probe On Cylinder Compliance
Officials are now examining whether the car was running on an uncertified aftermarket CNG kit, or whether its hydro-testing schedule and regulatory compliance had lapsed. The exact cause of the rupture has not been officially confirmed.
