New Delhi, April 28: The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in India rose to 29,435 on Tuesday with 62 deaths and 1543 new cases in last 24 hours, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said. The Ministry added saying that this is the sharpest ever increase in death cases in India. Of the total cases, 21,632 are active cases while 6868 individuals have been cured and discharged from the hospitals. The death toll has mounted to 934 while one person has migrated to another country, according to the data released by the Health Ministry on Tuesday morning. Maharashtra continued to be the worst-hit state with the total number of COVID-19 cases at 8,590. On Monday, the state recorded its highest single-day COVID-19 death toll at 27, the biggest jump in casualties since 25 people succumbed to the dreaded virus on April 9, health officials said. After Maharashtra, Gujarat was badly affected from COVID-19 with 3,548 cases and 162 fatalities. In Delhi, the total coronavirus cases in the national capital reached 3,108 on Monday with 190 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. The death toll due to COVID-19 stood at 54 as no further death was reported.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh crossed 2,000-mark with 2,262 and 2,168 coronavirus cases respectively. Uttar Pradesh reported at least 1,955 cases while in Tamil Nadu reported 1,937 cases so far. The states which reported more than 1,000 cases are Telangana (1,004) and Andhra Pradesh (1,183).

The states that have become COVID-19 free in India include Goa, Manipur and Tripura. According to a state-wise tally of COVID-19 cases, a report by IANS stated that states and UTs that have reported cases of coronavirus are West Bengal (697), Punjab (313), Odisha (118), Kerala (481), Jammu and Kashmir (546), Karnataka (512) Haryana (296), Bihar (345), Andaman and Nicobar Islands (33), Assam (36), Chandigarh (40), Chhattisgarh (37), Uttarakhand (51), Himachal Pradesh (40), Jharkhand (82), Ladakh (20), Arunachal Pradesh (1), Meghalaya (12), Mizoram (1), Puducherry (8).
