Crocodile Attack in Bahraich: 12-Year-Old Boy Dragged Into Ghaghra River and Eaten Alive, Horrific Video Surfaces

A horrifying incident has been reported from Bahraich district in Uttar Pradesh, where a crocodile attacked and killed a 12-year-old boy after dragging him into the Ghaghra river. The boy, identified as Sunil, had gone to wash his hands and feet in the river after finishing paddy transplantation work with his uncle when the crocodile suddenly attacked him and clamped him in its jaws. Villagers and the boy's uncle tried desperately to save him by throwing bricks and stones, but the crocodile refused to let go, tossing him into the water two to three times before dragging him into deeper waters. The reptile went on to consume nearly half of the boy's body before villagers, after a five hour search, recovered his remains. The incident took place on Thursday evening, but a video of the attack surfaced only on Friday morning, confirmed by Station House Officer T N Maurya.

How The Attack Unfolded

According to villagers, Sunil had gone to the fields with his uncle Vijay Raj Singh around 2 pm on Thursday for paddy transplantation. Forest Ranger Sakib Ansari said the crocodile ate the boy's right leg and the lower portion of his waist. Uncle Tried To Pull Him Free For 10 Minutes

Village head Sanjay Kumar Trivedi said the boy's uncle jumped into the river on hearing his cries and caught hold of his hand, trying to pull him out. Other villagers who rushed to the spot also grabbed the uncle's hand and joined the effort, but the crocodile would not release the boy. The struggle continued for nearly 10 minutes before the crocodile gave a sharp jerk, breaking the boy's hand free from his uncle's grip, and pulled him into deeper water.

Body Found After Five-Hour Search

As darkness fell, villagers continued the search using torches and bamboo poles, covering nearly 500 metres of the river given its strong current. Around 10 pm, roughly five hours after the attack, the boy's half-eaten body was found floating about 300 metres from the spot of the incident. Police reached the site on Friday morning and sent the body for post-mortem examination.

Boy Had Lost Both Parents, Lived With Uncle

Sunil's father Budhraj had died five years ago, while his mother had passed away seven years earlier, both due to illness. Sunil, the second of four siblings, had dropped out of school and was living with his uncle Vijay Raj Singh. His siblings include an elder sister Suman (14), younger brother Sanjay (10), and youngest sister Seema (7), all of whom study at the village primary school.

Government Announces Compensation

SDM Prakash Singh said the incident has been reported to officials and the family will be given financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh.
