The scheme, originally announced as the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana in the ruling party's election manifesto, was officially renamed to reflect both the capital's identity and its primary focus on women's economic self-reliance. State officials confirmed that the government aims to launch the cash transfer scheme around the festival of Raksha Bandhan. Under the finalized criteria, the assistance will be targeted at low-income households across the city. To qualify, applicants must be women aged between 21 and 60 who have resided in Delhi for at least 10 years, with an annual family income not exceeding ₹2.5 lakh. The benefit is restricted to the eldest eligible woman per household. Families owning a four-wheeler, those with members receiving other central or state pensions, or individuals with a criminal record will be excluded from the program.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta directed officials to ensure a seamless, transparent, and hassle-free registration process. The financial assistance is scheduled to be distributed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) directly into the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
The initiative aligns Delhi with several other Indian states—such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha—that have introduced cash assistance programs to boost women's financial security and household liquidity. Further notifications regarding documentation and online portal registration are expected in the coming weeks.
