Dan Levy Slams Shane Gillis’ ‘Misogynistic’ ‘SNL’ Monologue on Women’s Gym Attire

Dan Levy, 'Schitt's Creek' star, criticised Shane Gillis's 'Saturday Night Live' monologue from October 10, 2026, calling comments about women's gym wear 'misogynistic'. Levy's Instagram video condemned remarks as contributing to a harmful environment, urging men to speak out. Gillis's monologue follows his 2019 SNL firing.

In a swift and direct response, actor and filmmaker Dan Levy has publicly slammed comedian Shane Gillis's controversial opening monologue during his Saturday Night Live hosting gig on October 10, 2026. Levy, 43, took to Instagram to voice his outrage over Gillis's remarks about women's attire at the gym, sparking widespread discussion across social media. Ajaz Khan Says ‘Samay Raina Ka Encounter Karo’ After ‘IGL 2’ Contestant Makes Shocking Prize Money Claim.

Shane Gillis Controversial Monologue

During his third time hosting the iconic NBC sketch comedy show, Shane Gillis delivered a monologue that quickly drew criticism for its derogatory content. Gillis, 39, joked about women's fashion choices at the gym, stating, "I haven't been to the gym in so long, I didn't know women just dress like whores now." He continued, "Look, I'm sorry. There's no other way to describe—have you seen it? I've seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts?". This particular segment of his performance on Saturday Night Live Season 52, which also included jokes about his haircut resembling Adolf Hitler's and an accidental F-bomb during a later sketch, immediately ignited a firestorm of backlash.

It's not the first time Gillis has courted controversy on the SNL stage or elsewhere. He was famously hired and then fired from the show as a cast member in 2019, just days after clips of him using racist and homophobic slurs on his podcast resurfaced. Despite this history, he has since been invited back to host in 2024, 2025, and now in October 2026.

Dan Levy's Instagram Video and Call to Action

Responding to Gillis's monologue, Dan Levy, known for co-creating and starring in the Emmy-winning series Schitt's Creek, posted an impassioned video on his Instagram on October 11, 2026. Without directly naming Gillis or SNL, Levy made his stance unequivocally clear. "Women wearing short shorts to the gym does not make them whores," he asserted. "It makes the men calling them whores misogynists. There's a difference there."

Levy, who previously hosted SNL himself in 2021, expressed his profound disappointment, saying he was "speechless that something like that can exist on live national television." He further urged men to actively challenge such commentary. "More men need to be standing up in opposition to it because it's complacency that has created the environment with which women are sexually assaulted," Levy stressed, emphasising that it's "not a women's issue, this is an everybody issue." Adnan Sami’s Reaction to ‘Pakistani Spy’ Joke on Him on ‘India’s Got Latent S2’ Goes Viral.
