Delhi Weather Forecast: IMD Issues Red Alert for Heavy Rain
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) upgraded its weather warning for Delhi to a red alert on Friday afternoon, cautioning residents against intense heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday upgraded Delhi’s weather warning from yellow to red as rain affected several parts of the national capital and adjoining areas. The weather agency warned of further rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. Noida and Ghaziabad were placed under an orange warning, while no warning was issued for Gurugram at the time of the latest update, PTI reported.
Delhi Sees Rain, Red Alert Issued

The alert indicates the possibility of more intense rainfall along with thunderstorms. Residents have been advised to remain cautious as weather conditions may deteriorate in parts of the city.
According to IMD rainfall data cited by PTI, Palam recorded 3.4 mm of rain between 11:30 am and 2:30 pm. Najafgarh received 0.5 mm between 8:30 am and 11:30 am, while most other monitoring stations recorded no rainfall during the respective three-hour periods.
Noida, Ghaziabad Under Orange Warning
The IMD's latest nowcast, available around 3:30 pm, placed Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Ghaziabad under an orange warning for rain. Gurugram in Haryana, meanwhile, had no weather warning in the latest update. Weather conditions across the Delhi-NCR region could continue to change as the rain spell progresses. Delhi Temperature and Humidity
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 25.5°C at Palam, which was 0.1°C above normal. Lodhi Road recorded 27.6°C, while the Ridge recorded 23.7°C. The maximum temperature was expected to remain around 32°C. Humidity stood at 75% in the morning, adding to the sultry conditions before the latest spell of rain.
Delhi Had Wetter-Than-Normal August
The latest rainfall comes after an unusually wet August for Delhi. The capital recorded 354.1 mm of rainfall between August 1 and August 30, up to 5:30 pm, compared with the IMD's long-period average of 233.1 mm for the month.
Delhi also recorded above-normal August rainfall in 2024 and 2025, when the city received 390.3 mm and 400.81 mm respectively. Since 2011, August rainfall in Delhi has exceeded the long-period average only six times — in 2012, 2013, 2020, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
Gurugram Recorded Rainfall Surplus in August
While Haryana as a whole recorded a 5% rainfall deficit in August, Gurugram received 217.4 mm against its normal 185.1 mm, representing a 17% surplus. The city also recorded 66.5 mm of rainfall between August 21 and 27, which was 58% above its normal weekly rainfall.
The IMD's red warning for Delhi and orange warnings for Noida and Ghaziabad underscore the possibility of further disruption from rain and thunderstorms across parts of the region. Residents are advised to monitor official weather updates as conditions evolve.
