The memoir is expected to revisit major milestones in Gandhi’s personal and political life, including her marriage to Rajiv Gandhi, the assassination of her mother-in-law, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in 1984, and Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination in 1991.
It also examines her eventual entry into politics and her leadership of the Indian National Congress. Gandhi became the party’s longest-serving president and played a central role in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government that came to power in 2004.

Publication Plans Changed After Disagreement With Penguin India
The Indian edition of the memoir also drew attention after Penguin Random House India did not proceed with its planned publication. HarperCollins India subsequently announced that it would publish the book in the country.
Reports indicated that the two sides had differences over proposed editorial changes. Penguin Random House India said the discussions had reached an impasse over a particular issue and denied that external pressure had influenced its decision. The publisher also said Sonia Gandhi’s team had informed it that they did not wish to proceed with the publication.
The change in Indian publisher added to interest surrounding the memoir, which is expected to offer Gandhi’s account of her family’s political legacy and the events she witnessed over several decades. With her Instagram debut, Gandhi has now used the platform to introduce the book ahead of its November release.
