Panaji, March 3: Police in Goa have booked a woman from Delhi in connection with "sexual assault" and "wrongful confinement" of a French woman. The accused, who identifies herself as a queer rights activist, allegedly drugged the French woman, performed so-called shamanic rituals and sexually assaulted her with hand. According to the French woman, also a queer, the sexual assault took place in Goa on February 23. Goa Horror: 30-Year-Old Held for Raping Differently-Abled Minor Girl in Panaji.
The French woman, a 26-year-old yoga instructor in Paris, said she was on a business trip in Goa when she came in contact with the accused through Instagram. "Being an activist myself and involved in advocating LGBTQ rights, I felt inspired by her work to support the community and agreed to have lunch together along with a friend of mine the next day," she was quoted by TOI as saying. According to the French woman, when she went to meet the accused woman in her hotel room, she drugged her by giving her a pill. "She insisted that I come into her room. She noticed I had back issues and gave me a pill claiming she was a shamanic healer and this would help me with the pain," the French woman said. She further alleged that the accused had "molested" her and violated her private parts under the ruse of performing a “shamanic healing ritual”.
Acting on the French woman's complaint, police booked the accused and arrested her. She was later released on bail. "I understand that woman-to-woman sexual assault is very hard to recognise as rape but medical investigations should show that I suffered small lesions between my privates and my chest and back were covered with bruises," the victim alleged.
Though the French woman termed the sexual assault as "rape", Indian laws, currently, does not take into account sexual assault by a woman on another woman, by a man on another man, on a transgender by another transgender or on a man by a woman.
