Shimla, December 17: An earthquake of magnitude 3.0 was reported from Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday morning. According to a tweet by ANI, the quake hit the Kangra region at 10.51 hours (10.51 am) in Kangra region of the hill state. No casualties or damage to property has been reported so far. The quake hit Himachal Pradesh at the time when cold wave conditions have gripped the state. Famous tourist destinations in Himachal Pradesh, including Shimla, Manali, Dalhousie and Kufri, have been witnessing snowfall since the past few days. This has led to the mercury dropping to sub-zero levels in many areas.

According to a weather bulletin by IMD, a fresh western disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from December 18 onwards which is likely to cause isolated to scattered rain/snow over the region. This Western Disturbance is not likely to cause any significant weather over the plains of northwest India.

Earlier this week, a quake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale struck Palghar in Maharashtra. In the last month, another earthquake of 3.5 magnitude was recorded in Palghar. The tremors were felt around 7.20 am at Dhundalwadi village in Dahanu taluka of Palghar.
