A large group of school students in Uttar Pradesh's Hamirpur reached the District Magistrate's office on Tuesday, August 11, raising slogans and demanding construction of a paved road to their school. Carrying the tricolour, the students gathered at the Collectorate after being affected by the poor condition of the road connecting several camps to Chandpur Gram Panchayat in Kurara block.

The students attempted to enter the DM office but were stopped by police and other officials. They later staged a sit-in at the Collectorate gate, demanding action on the road, which they said becomes muddy and difficult to use during the rains. The protest continued for a considerable time. Mohan Bhagwat Says Gen Z and Gen Alpha More Honest Than Existing Generation; Here's Why.

Gen Alpha Students Reach Collectorate With Tricolour

Following the example of Delhi's Jantar Mantar, the students marched to the Collectorate carrying the tricolour. The large gathering of children caught the administration's attention. After receiving information about the protest, SDM Sadar Abhishek Kumar and CO Yashpal Singh arrived with police personnel to prevent the students from entering the District Magistrate's office.

The students, however, continued towards the office. Police and other staff present at the spot eventually stopped them, following which the students sat down in protest at the Collectorate gate. 'Youth Not Ready to Listen to Mohan Bhagwat': Uddhav Thackeray Hits Out Over GenZ NEET Protests.

Students Demand Road to School

The students said around 3,000 people living in the area are dependent on a dirt road. According to the protesters, the road becomes muddy during the rainy season, making it difficult for residents to travel. They said transporting sick people to hospitals becomes particularly challenging, while reaching school is also difficult.

The students also said an alternative route had been closed by the Forest Department, leaving residents with limited access.

Students Say Earlier Protest Did Not Resolve Issue

The students and villagers said they had earlier protested over the road on July 3. According to them, soil was placed on the road following the protest, but rainfall subsequently turned the surface into mud again. With the condition of the road worsening during the rains, the students decided to approach the District Magistrate's office directly.

The Gen Alpha students have demanded construction of a paved road connecting the area with the school. They have warned that the protest will continue if their demand is not addressed. The incident has drawn attention to the difficulties faced by students and residents who depend on the unpaved road, particularly during the monsoon.

Police Presence at Protest Site

Police personnel and other officials were deployed at the Collectorate as the students gathered outside the DM office. The protesters were prevented from entering the office premises and subsequently continued their demonstration at the gate.

The incident has also prompted discussion over how the administration responds to students raising civic and infrastructure-related concerns. The immediate demand from the students remains the construction of a proper paved road to and from their school. Further action from the district administration on the issue is awaited.
