Dehradun, November 15: India's leading food and beverage company, Nestle in an attempt to curb the plastic waste have started an initiative 'MAGGI Wrappers return' in which consumers can get a free packet of Maggi. Under the offer, the consumer can get free Maggi instant noodles for every ten empty wrappers of Maggi. The project is running in Mussoorie and Dehradun on a pilot basis. A Nestle India spokesperson while speaking to Economic Times said that this move is among one the Nestle's several waste management programs. Currently, on Pilot Basis, Nestle is working with 250 retailers to follow this initiative. "We are hopeful that this will bring about a behaviour change in consumers and help create awareness for responsibly disposing of plastic waste and prevent littering," the spokesperson said. Earlier this year, a study by Gati foundation found that Nestle's Maggi along with PepsiCo's Lays and Parle's Frooti were the major contributor for plastic pollution as their empty packets weren't properly disposed of in the mountainous area like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Following the Pilot program in Uttarakhand, it is reported that the scheme will be going live in the other states as well.
