A 52-year-old affluent farmer and landowner was allegedly shot dead by his son at their residence in Modinagar’s Budana village following a dispute over property distribution. The victim, identified as Hariom Chaudhary, possessed an estimated net worth of INR 150 crore, including vast agricultural land and commercial markets in the region.
According to the Ghaziabad police, the incident occurred late Wednesday night after the accused, 32-year-old Nikhil, arrived home in an inebriated state. A heated argument erupted when Chaudhary reprimanded his son for his drinking habits. During the altercation, Nikhil allegedly drew a pistol and fired multiple rounds at his father, hitting him in the face, chest, and abdomen. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Modinagar, Bhaskar Verma, stated that the ongoing family friction stemmed from Nikhil's persistent demands for more property. Chaudhary had already legally transferred 25 bighas of land and several commercial shops to Nikhil. However, the accused was pressuring his father to sign over the remainder of the estate.
Investigators revealed that Chaudhary had refused to transfer the remaining assets—which included another 75 bighas of land and a prominent market complex on the Delhi-Meerut Road—out of fear that his son would squander the family fortune on alcohol and personal indulgences.
This is not the first instance of violence linked to the accused. Police records indicate that in 2018, Nikhil allegedly opened fire on his younger brother, Neeshu, following a domestic dispute. Authorities are now re-examining the circumstances of the 2018 shooting as part of the current homicide investigation.
