New Delhi, December 12: As the year comes to an end, Google has released a list of things most searched on the search engine in the year 2018, under various categories. As far as India is concerned,  Google has released the top 10 searches for categories like "Movies", "Near Me", "How to...", "what is...", "songs" "sports events", "what is...", "personalities" and also an "overall" list. The top search list throws light on some interesting facts. For example, FIFA World Cup 2018 was the highest search item under the news category in India  and Priyanka Chopra's wedding made it third on the list. Nora Fatehi’s Dilbar Was 2018’s Most Googled Song in India! Of Course, It Was!

Google CEO Sundar Pichai also shared a heartfelt video and a message regarding the top searches in the year 2018.

1. FIFA World Cup 2018: The 2018 FIFA World Cup was the 21st edition of the international football tournament which takes place every four years The 2018 FIFA World Cup was held in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018. France won the football world cup by defeating Croatia 4-2 in the final.

2. Karnataka Election Results: The Karnataka assembly elections was a hard fought battle for the control of the state of Karnataka. The quest for knowing the result of the polls, which was also fueled by the post poll drama, made the Karnataka Election Results the second highest searched news item on Google in 2018 for India region.

3. Priyanka Chopra Nick Jonas Wedding: The highly anticipated and much celebrated Priyanka Chopra Nick Jonas wedding was a week long elaborate affair that generated huge interest among fans who were eager to see pictures of the couple. The "fairytale" wedding set social media on fire and seems people just couldn't stop searching about the wedding.

4. Statue of Unity: The Statue of Unity is the world's tallest statue standing 182 metres (597 ft) tall. The statue is dedicated to Indian statesman and first Home Minister of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The statue was inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018, on the occasion of 143rd anniversary of Patel's birth.

5. Nipah Virus: The Nipah Virus caused panic, pain and death for many in the state of Kerala. The deadly Nipah virus was responsible for at least 19 deaths in the state and an alert had to be issued in Kerala following the outbreak of the virus in June, 2018.

The other five top searches from India were Bitcoin price, Budget 2018, Deepika Padukone wedding, Section 377 and Sonam Kapoor marriage.  The list is an interesting compilation of the events that Indians were most excited about and wanted to know more in 2018.
