Speaking after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) Parliamentary Party 'Mangal Milan' meeting on Tuesday, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju stated that the Prime Minister emphasized treating paper leaks as a matter of national concern rather than a political issue.

Strict Action Demanded Across Centre and States

Briefing reporters after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju highlighted Prime Minister Modi’s direct stance on the recent examination controversies, including concerns surrounding the NEET exam. "On the NEET exam, the PM said we stand with the students. Those involved in paper leaks must face strict action, in consultation with top lawyers. Paper leaks are a matter of national concern and must not be politicised. Strict action should be taken not only by the Centre but also by states wherever paper leaks occur," Rijiju said.

Rijiju added that legal consultations would be conducted to ensure that penalties against offenders are robust and legally enforceable, regardless of whether the incidents occur under central or state jurisdictions.

Escalating Student Protests and Political Context

The Prime Minister’s remarks follow intensified nationwide protests by student groups and political outfits over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in national entrance examinations like NEET-UG. Demonstrations recently surged in the national capital, marked by rallies and delegations seeking structural reforms in national testing agencies and accountability from the Union Education Ministry.

Focus on Free Trade Agreements and Farmer Welfare

In addition to addressing examination integrity, Prime Minister Modi provided strategic guidance to NDA parliamentarians on broader national achievements and economic policies. The meeting reviewed recent international developments, including India's ongoing negotiations and newly signed Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).

Addressing concerns regarding global trade deals, Rijiju noted that the Prime Minister explicitly assured members that the agricultural sector would remain protected.

"Regarding these agreements, the Prime Minister assured that the interests of farmers would be prioritised; he emphasised that no harm would come to them. He stated that the welfare of farmers remains paramount in any FTA signed with any country," Rijiju stated.

The 'Mangal Milan' meeting also served as an introductory platform for newly elected members of Parliament. The NDA parliamentary group formally welcomed incoming Rajya Sabha MPs, including BJP leader Nitin Nabin, as part of the session's agenda ahead of upcoming legislative business.
