Noida, July 18: Bodies of five people were recovered on Wednesday from the debris of the two buildings that collapsed yesterday in Greater Noida. Four National Disaster and Response Force (NDRF) teams are present at the spot. Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Noida, Pankaj Singh termed it as an unfortunate incident. He also blamed illegal construction for the collapse and ensured strict action against people responsible for it. Singh said, “It's unfortunate. Illegal construction should be stopped and strict action should be taken against those responsible. Officers who overlooked everything should be held responsible & strict action should be taken against them too.”

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also took cognisance of the incident. The chief minister asked the District Magistrate to follow up with the NDRF team and the police for relief measures and to ensure the immediate rescue of those trapped inside the rubble. A lookout notice has been issued against the builder. According to reports, 18 families lived in the buildings.

Greater Noida authorities had acquired the land in Shah Beri from villagers, who protested against the acquisition and also moved court for justice. The Supreme Court later cancelled the purchase. After the apex court’s ruling, builders had to change the location of their projects. As per reports, safety norms were not taken care of while constructing the buildings.
