The Uttar Pradesh government may implement a major scheme before the assembly elections to secure the women's vote bank, under which women could be provided financial assistance of up to INR 50,000. The first installment of INR 20,000 would reportedly be disbursed before the elections, while three subsequent installments of INR 10,000 each would follow after the elections, provided the BJP government is formed again. Deliberations on the scheme have reportedly begun within the government.

Government Looks To Woo Women Voters

The Yogi Adityanath government has started preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. Amid the ongoing Gen-Z movement, the government is reportedly considering a major scheme aimed at securing the women's vote bank, focused on women's welfare, self-employment and economic self-reliance. Uttar Pradesh SIR: Final Electoral Rolls Released After SIR, EC Announces 84 Lakh New Voters Added in Major Revision Exercise.

The scheme is expected to be proposed through the Women Welfare Department, with consideration reportedly being given to providing financial assistance of INR 50,000 to eligible women.

Priority For BPL, SC And ST Families

The government is likely to prioritise women from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe families, along with women from Below Poverty Line and economically weaker families, under the scheme, reported Dainik Bhaskar. This could include women from households whose annual income does not exceed INR 12 lakh. UP CM Yogi Adityanath Asks Child ‘Kya Chahiye Aapko?’, He Asks for ‘Chips’; Video Goes Viral.

The Scheme Could Prove To Be A Gamechanger

Government sources believe the cash incentive scheme for women could prove to be a gamechanger in the assembly elections, following the pattern seen in other states. Similar schemes were first implemented in Madhya Pradesh, and later rolled out in the Maharashtra and Bihar assembly elections, with BJP governments subsequently being formed in each of those states.

Under the Ladli Behna Yojana in Madhya Pradesh, eligible women are given INR 1,500 every month. In Maharashtra, the Chief Minister Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana provides INR 1,500 every month to women aged 21 to 65 years. In Haryana, the Deendayal Lado Lakshmi Yojana offers women INR 2,100 every month. In Bihar, ahead of the assembly elections, the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme was launched, under which INR 10,000 was credited to women's accounts.

BJP's Focus On Women And The Elderly

Just ahead of the UP assembly elections, the Yogi government is also set to provide major relief to more than 1.18 crore pension beneficiaries, including the elderly, widows, destitute women and persons with disabilities, with pension amounts under these schemes expected to increase by INR 500 every month.

In addition, a provision of INR 400 crore has been made for distributing scooters to meritorious girl students. Girl students from families with an annual income of up to INR 12 lakh will reportedly receive a helmet along with the scooter, four litres of petrol, free registration and insurance.
