According to investigators, the accused, identified as Mazhid Nadaf, a married resident of Old Hubballi, had gradually befriended the child over the past several weeks, TNIE reported. The girl regularly passed by his residence while walking to and from school, during which Nadaf reportedly initiated conversations, gave her small amounts of money, and asked her to purchase small grocery items for him to gain her confidence. Karnataka Man Arrested for Showing Inappropriate Videos to Minor Girl
Police alleged that Nadaf subsequently attempted to behave inappropriately with the child and showed her obscene videos on his mobile phone with wrongful intentions. After the child disclosed the matter to her family, her parents approached law enforcement authorities.
Following the complaint, police took Nadaf into custody and launched an investigation. Officials confirmed that they are examining his background and gathering further information as part of the ongoing probe into the incident. The incident has highlighted the importance of parental oversight regarding children's daily routes and interactions with strangers.
A city-based social activist said that while awareness programmes conducted by the police and the administration are important, parents should also remain vigilant about their children’s safety. “Parents should regularly interact with their children and be aware of their surroundings, friends and daily routines,” the activist said.
