Dehradun, September 17: The Uttarakhand police recently arrested a man from Gujarat for allegedly sending a few men from the state to Thailand. The accused, identified as Jaideep Ramoji Tokdia (30), is said to be a resident of Porbandar. Cops said that Tokdia is accused of trafficking seven youths from Uttarakhand's Kheema and Banbasa to Thailand. The accused was arrested on Friday, September 13.
The alleged incident came to light when Rajendra Singh Saun, a resident of Gudmi village in Banbasa, approached the police and lodged a complaint. Cops said that Saun filed a complaint on July 10 after he lost contact with his son, Lalit Saun and his friends, reports TOI. Of the seven youths, three were rescued by the police and the Indian embassy in Bangkok. Ajay Ganpati, SP of Champawat, said that Lalit, his two friends, Vikas and Kamlesh, and three youths from Kheema went to Delhi in search of a job. Following this, the youths informed their parents that they were going to Bangkok for work. SP Ganpati further said that they got in touch with the Myanmar and Thailand embassies through the Indian Foreign Office in Delhi.
The Champawat police contacted the authorities after one of the youths contacted his family on WhatsApp and told them that they were all in Myanmar. The youth also told his family that Thai individuals were assisting all of them. When contacted, the youths revealed that a person named Rahul Upadhyay from Delhi had sent seven youths from Uttarakhand to Thailand with help from his associate Jaideep Ramji Tokdia, alias Jai Joshi. The youths also alleged that Tokdia allegedly sold them to companies for 10,000 baht. Banbasa station officer Laaxman Singh said that all youths were trafficked to Myanmar and were reportedly forced into cyber fraud activities. "Those who rebelled were subjected to physical abuse, and a substantial ransom was demanded for their return to India," Singh added. While a probe has been launched, cops said that the main accused, Rahul Upadhyay, fled to Dubai.
