Hyderabad: Home Guard Arrested After Video Shows Woman Being Assaulted and Dragged by Hair

A Telangana State Police home guard deputed to the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been arrested after a video showing him allegedly assaulting a woman and dragging her by her hair outside Hafeezpet Railway Station in Hyderabad went viral on social media. The accused, identified as Anand, has also been removed from the rolls of the Home Guard department and is set to be produced before a magistrate for judicial remand, TOI reported.

The incident reportedly took place on Friday night near Platform No. 1 on the Aditya Nagar side of Hafeezpet Railway Station. The video circulating online shows the uniformed personnel allegedly assaulting the woman before grabbing her by the hair and dragging her along the roadside. Home Guard Identified as Telangana Police Personnel

South Central Railway clarified that the man seen in the video was not an RPF constable, as was initially suspected. He was identified as a Telangana State Police Home Guard who had been deputed for duty at Hafeezpet Railway Station.

The railway authorities said he was repatriated to the Telangana State Police department for necessary disciplinary action. Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Ramesh later confirmed that Anand had been arrested and taken into custody. Case Registered Under BNS Sections

Miyapur Police registered a case against Anand under Sections 74 and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), according to police. Section 74 relates to assault or use of criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, while Section 118(1) concerns voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt using dangerous weapons or means. Police said they were investigating the circumstances surrounding the altercation and alleged assault.

Police Say Misconduct Will Not Be Tolerated

Telangana Director General of Police C V Anand condemned the home guard's conduct and said police personnel cannot be excused for such behaviour, regardless of their rank or the circumstances leading to an incident.

The DGP said an inquiry established that the home guard was on deputation to the Railway Police Force and was not part of the local police. He directed that disciplinary and criminal action be initiated. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh also said the police follow a zero-tolerance approach towards crimes against women.

Investigation Underway

Authorities are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the confrontation. Police are expected to assess the viral footage along with other available evidence and witness accounts as part of the investigation. The incident has also prompted clarification from railway authorities regarding the personnel's status, with officials stressing that the accused was a Telangana Police Home Guard deployed at the station rather than an RPF constable.
