According to eyewitnesses, smoke began emanating from the SML Mahindra Hiroi bus, prompting immediate evacuation. As staff struggled with fire extinguishers, the blaze quickly consumed the vehicle. Video footage shot by parents waiting outside soon surfaced on social media, triggering widespread panic among families before the school sent out an official delay notification hours later. Protesting parents expressed deep concern over transport safety standards, alleging a pattern of mechanical issues with the school’s bus fleet. Previous incidents cited included air conditioning failures, central locking glitches, and a January 2026 event where locals broke a bus window to rescue stranded children.
A review of vehicle records revealed that the three-month-old bus was registered as a non-AC variant, despite operating with an air conditioning system. Parents have formally petitioned district officials—including the Sangareddy District Collector and police authorities—calling for an investigation into unauthorized vehicle modifications, a complete fleet safety inspection, and mandatory installation of functional fire alarm systems across school infrastructure.
