Hyderabad Police and officials of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) have seized unauthorised cosmetic products allegedly manufactured in Pakistan and valued at around Rs 7 lakh during raids at shops in Hyderabad. The joint operation was carried out on September 30 following information about the alleged sale and distribution of cosmetic products suspected to have been imported from Pakistan without the required authorisation and registration.

The raids were conducted at three shops in the Nampally area, including Beauty Ladies Emporium, Beauty Queen Shop and SJ Medical Shop. Officials examined the products and found that they had not been issued the mandatory Registration Certificate required for their import into India, according to authorities. Five People Booked

Police said two cases have been registered against five people in connection with the alleged unauthorised sale of the products. The cases were filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

The products seized included beauty creams and soaps marketed for skin-whitening purposes. Several of the products were identified as being manufactured in Pakistan. Police said local sellers were also allegedly unable to produce proper purchase bills, invoices or other supporting documents showing the source of the products.

Mumbai Supply Link Under Investigation

A preliminary investigation has indicated an alleged supply chain involving a Mumbai-based dealer or supplier. According to police, the supplier is suspected of arranging or receiving the cosmetics from outside India before supplying them to dealers in Hyderabad. Investigators are now working to identify the supplier and establish how the products entered the country. Police are also examining purchase and transport records and checking whether other people or storage locations were involved in the distribution network. CDSCO Raises Safety Concerns

The action also comes amid regulatory concerns over certain unauthorised Pakistan-made cosmetics. Officials said the products seized in Hyderabad were among those identified in a CDSCO/DCGI public notice as unauthorised or banned for import.

Reports citing CDSCO information said some Pakistan-made skin-whitening products have been found to contain heavy metals beyond permissible limits, potentially posing health risks to consumers. The Hyderabad investigation is continuing, with authorities focusing on the alleged import route, the Mumbai-based supply link and the wider distribution network.
