The victim, identified as Mohammed Mehboob Ali, a resident of Fatima Nagar in Vattepally, was brutally attacked on the night of August 30 opposite the Almas Hotel. Investigators stated that the assailants assaulted him with knives and daggers, inflicting severe injuries to his head, chest, and hands. Ali was rushed to Princess Esra Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s son, Mohammed Shanawaz, authorities registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. A dedicated investigation led to the apprehension of six adults and one Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) on September 3. Police identified the adult suspects as Mirza Mohsin Baig, Mohammed Imran Ahemad, Mohammed Naseer, Shaik Akram, Mohammed Abrar Ali, and Mohammed Sami (alias Shutter). According to the police, the prime accused, Mirza Mohsin Baig, targeted the victim out of a superstitious belief that Ali had performed black magic on his mother, Tahera Begum, causing her persistent health issues. Baig also blamed Ali for the death of his maternal uncle, Mohammed Khaleel. Investigating officers revealed that Baig shared his suspicions with his cousin, Mohammed Imran Ahemad, and the duo plotted the murder. Upon learning of Ali’s presence near Almas Hotel on August 30, the group gathered at a nearby establishment, secured weapons, and rode to the scene on two scooters to carry out the attack. All seven suspects have been presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody. Addressing the media, Rajendra Nagar Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police S. Sreenivas cautioned the public against relying on superstitious beliefs, urging citizens to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
