Pune, June 26: The Pune Sessions Court on Wednesday acquitted two gangsters - Sharad Mohol and Alok Bhalerao - in the murder case of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui. As per reports, Siddiqui was found strangled to death in Pune's Yerwada jail in 2012.

Earlier, the suspected Indian Mujahideen operative was arrested and was facing charges for his alleged involvement in the terror attacks in Bengaluru, Delhi and Pune. Reports say that Mahol and Bhalerao walked to Siddiqui's cell on June 8, 2012, between 9.45 am and 10 am. Soon after that Mahol allegedly used two drawstrings from a pair of short to strangulate Siddiqui. During that time, Bhalerao caught hold of the victim's legs, which led to the death of Siddiqui.

Following this, the then Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil had ordered a CID probe. Siddiqui had been considered as a close aide to Yasin Bhatkal, a kingpin of IM operative. he was arrested for his alleged involvements in various attacks, including the bombing of the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore in April 2010 and the blasts at the Jama Masjid in Delhi in 2010.
