Moradabad, November 16: The first trial run of Train 18 or T18, India's first engine-less train which is regarded successor to the iconic Shatabdi Express, is set to hit the tracks on Saturday. The train will run on a trial basis and undergo short runs in Bareilly-Moradabad section on a standard railway track. The Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) team of Indian railways has also reached Moradabad to inspect the trail run. Train 18 to Start Trial Run Today: 10 Things to Know About First Engine Less Train in India.

After the first trial in Moradabad, the second trail test will be observed on the Delhi-Mathura route. Earlier the train had run on an experimental basis near Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, the test was conducted for five days to check its braking system, air conditioning and other features as well as to familiarise the crew and staff with its control room.

The new train has many features including a seating capacity of 1128 passengers in 16 fully air-conditioned coaches. The estimated cost of Train 18 is 100 crore but the cost can be reduced by subsequent production. The train is capable of running at a speed of 160 Kmph with quick advance acceleration. The engineless train is considered as a major leap in technology and innovation in Indian Railways.
