New Delhi, July 23:  The Supreme Court on Monday permitted Karti Chidambaram, son of Former Union minister P Chidambaram to travel to three nations abroad including United States of America (USA), France and UK for business purpose. According to a tweet by ANI, Karti can travel to these three nations from July 23 to  July 31. Karti is facing a probe by Enforcement Directorate and the CBI in cases including the one relating to FIPB clearance to INX Media for receiving foreign funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore.

Even after months of questioning, both Chidambaram and Karti have denied the allegations levelled against them by the CBI and ED in connection with INX Media case. In May, the Supreme Court had allowed Karti to travel to the United Kingdom, Germany and Spain with certain conditions, including that he would not open or close any bank account abroad.

Earlier today, P Chidambaram moved a Delhi court seeking anticipatory bail in the Aircel-Maxis case. The Special CBI Judge O P Saini will hear the matter at 2 pm. Chidambaram and his son Karti Chidambaram were named in a charge sheet filed by the CBI in the case on July 19.

To recall, the Enforcement Directorate, in May 2017, had filed a money laundering case against Karti Chidambaram, INX Media and its directors Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukerjea. Reports inform that Karti's company allegedly received Rs 10 lakh from INX Media – which had received clearance from the Foreign Exchange Promotion Board for Rs 4 crore in foreign funding, when in fact it had got Rs 305 crore in 2007. This all happened when Karti's father, P Chidambaram was the finance minister in the Congress-led UPA government.
