Jaipur-Delhi Travel Gets Costlier as NHAI Hikes Toll Charges by Up to 12%

Road travel across key highways connecting Jaipur to major cities, including New Delhi, has become more expensive after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) revised toll charges across several fee plazas surrounding the Rajasthan capital. The revised rates came into effect at midnight on Monday. Toll fees across impacted corridors have increased between 8% and 12%, resulting in per-plaza hikes ranging from INR 5 to INR 30, depending on the vehicle category.

For private vehicle owners driving between Jaipur and New Delhi via National Highway 48 (NH-48), a single trip now costs ₹395, up from the previous rate of INR 375. Beyond the primary Jaipur–Delhi route, the toll adjustment impacts several major corridors around the region. Affected toll booths include the Thikariya plaza on the Ajmer–Mumbai highway, as well as the Tantiya Was plaza along the Jaipur–Chomu–Ringas route, which serves as a major transit corridor for pilgrims visiting Khatu Shyamji. The tariff revision directly impacts daily commuters, intercity taxi operators, and tour service providers, many of whom have indicated that travel fares will be adjusted upward to absorb the increased operational costs. Commercial freight operators are also assessing the financial impact. Transport industry experts warn that higher transit tolls for heavy goods vehicles could drive up freight costs, potentially cascading into minor price adjustments for everyday commodities such as fresh produce and milk. Despite the rate increase, certain standard concessions remain active under existing NHAI policy:

• Return Journey Discount: Motorists returning through the same toll plaza within 24 hours remain eligible for standard return-trip discounts.

• Local Resident Exemption: Monthly local pass facilities for residents living within a 20-kilometer radius of a toll plaza will continue under existing guidelines without change.

The tariff adjustment aligns with routine statutory fee revisions conducted by the NHAI to match maintenance costs and highway infrastructure upkeep across national transit corridors.
