Kupwara, July 20: A mutilated body of a 10-year-old boy was found in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday. The murder sparked anger across the Kashmir valley. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, Umar Farooq, a Class 3 student, went missing after on Monday afternoon. He left his home in Gulgam village of Kupwara for the market. Villagers found his mutilated body in a stream near his home.

The police filed a murder case and also constituted a special investigation team (SIT). The SIT team is to be headed by the additional superintendent of police, Kupwara. According to the report, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar will supervise the probe.

The boy’s body was found naked, partially burnt and his left arm was missing. As per the Police, the body was putrefied. The boy’s father is a labourer, and his mother is a peon in a school. He is the only brother of seven sisters. There was a shutdown in Kupwara as a protest against the murder.

Internet services were also suspended in the area. Relatives of the victim demanded a fair investigation into the case. Director General of Police (DGP), Jammu and Kashmir, Shesh Paul Vaid ensured to nab the culprits soon. Former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti also expressed grief over the incident.
