Kulgam, February 24: in a major breakthrough for security forces, three Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists were killed on Sunday in an encounter in Tarigam area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. According to reports, one army personnel who was initially injured in the gun-battle succumbed to his injuries. Earlier, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) J&K police Aman Thakur was also martyred in the encounter.

Thakur was a 2011 batch KPS Officer and had been heading counter-terrorism wing of J&K police in Kulgam for past 1.5 years. A major-rank officer was also injured in the encounter. Jammu And Kashmir: Two JeM Terrorists Gunned Down by Security Forces in Sopore Encounter.

Director General of Police, Jammu and Kashmir Dilbagh Singh while talking to media said that it was a group of militants from Jaish who were hiding somewhere after which security forces started operation. Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the encounter site. However, the identity of the killed terrorists is still not ascertained.

DGP Dilbagh Singh's statement:

A joint team of the India Army, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation following inputs of the presence of terrorists in the area on Sunday morning. The encounter broke out after the terrorists fired upon the security forces.

On February 18 too, three JeM terrorists were killed in an encounter in Pinglan area of Pulwama district. One of the terrorists Abdul Rasheed Ghazi was the mastermind of the February 14 Pulwama attack which claimed lives of 40 CRPF jawans. Five army personnel were also martyred in the gunfight.
