Ahmedabad, October 23: The session court in Ahmedabad on Wednesday granted 72 hours transit remand for main accused -- Ashfaq Hussain (34) and Moinuddin Pathan (27) -- for Hindu leader Kamlesh Tiwari's murder. Both of them were arrested by the Gujarat ATS and Uttar Pradesh Police personnel in Surat on Tuesday night from Gujarat-Rajasthan border near Shamlaji. Earlier, teh probing team had arrested three people from Surat in connection with Tiwari's murder.

According to the post-mortem report of Hindu Samaj Party leader, he was stabbed 15 times and then shot in the face by the murderers in Lucknow on Friday. The report states that Tiwari was stabbed from his neck to his chest, while a point 32 bore bullet was lodged in the back of his head. Following this, a complaint was filed with Lucknow Police which constituted a team. Till now, police and ATS have arrested six people arrested in the case so far, out of which five are from Surat. Among the other accused -- Ashfaq and Moinuddin -- met Tiwari at his home in Naka Hindola area in Lucknow on Friday on the pretext of gifting Diwali sweets and discussing political matters. Later once he was inside his house, these two main accused allegedly slit his throat and shot him before escaping.

Apart from Ashfaq and Moinuddin, UP Police have also detained Bijnor residents Mohammed Mufti Naeem Kazmi and Imam Maulana Anwarul Haq, after Tiwari's wife named them in her complaint. She had alleged that both the duo had announced a cash reward of Rs 1.5 crore on her husband's head in 2016. Meanwhile, police have quashed the reports of any terror organisation's link at the moment and said that the investigation is underway.
